Novel & 'Green' Electrical Power Distribution Equipment
Arcoline offers a unique solution in protecting electricity distribution substations and utilities equipment from fault current damages. The company's first product is a fast and automatic Fault Current Limiting Circuit Breaker (FCL-CB). Arcoline is a 'green' alternative to currently existing grid protection methods, saving expenses on repair and reducing energy consumption. The Arcoline circuit breaker is technologically unexampled, functionally revolutionary and still conveniently implemented by electricity providers.
THE MARKET
The annual world market of electrical power distribution equipment in the medium range voltage is estimated at USD 1.8 billion, with possible increase to USD 5 billion, following new regulations. Implementing Arcoline's FCL-CB offers considerable cost saving by deferring the need to upgrade and replace the grid equipment in current networks. Arcoline also facilitates reduction of power losses of up to 2% in existing networks, and as such meets the US Department of Energy's new energy efficiency standards (2009).
THE TECHNOLOGY
The core element of Arcoline's FCL-CB is the electro-dynamic power switch, the only power switch fast enough to disconnect the grid before the fault current reaches a dangerous level that damages the grid. Arcoline currently has the fastest electro-dynamic power switch in the world, in the range of about 100MW, which can open its contacts in less than 0.4mSec.
STATUS
Arcoline was established in 2004 and operates within the Cleantech group of ATI technology incubator, a subsidiary of Biomedix Incubator Ltd (TASE). The Israel Electric Company (IEC) has been a strategic partner from the company's inception and invested in Arcoline's initial seed funding round. The company has demonstrated a proof of concept for its switch technology.
