MARKET
The Main potential markets are: U.S., Europe, Japan and Australia-New Zealand. The reported amount of ACL reconstruction procedures in the U.S. is 350,000, with an annual growth of 5%. A less invasive treatment, along with minimizing medical, functional and esthetical side effects, might increase surgery rate even more (currently, only half of ACL injuries are treated surgically).
The typical patient is: Professional, college and recreational athletes, combat soldiers and individuals involved in intensive activity of dancing.
INNOVATION & ADVANTAGES
Until today, all attempts to produce synthetic ligaments for the ACL were based on polymeric materials. These products failed within a few years of usage due to their mechanical features such as fatigue and creep.
Tavor's ligament is designed to bear the mechanical burden, without suffering from the mentioned ailments.
PROJECT STATUS
Since its foundation in 2008, Tavor conducted bench tests showing the feasibility of the prosthesis, followed by a long term in-vivo study, and received the expected results ensuring the safety and efficacy of the product. Tavor received the "outstanding project" award at ILSI Biomed 2008 – Israel's national Life Science and Technology Conference. Since 2009 Tavor is funded by ATI (a subsidiary of Biomedix, TASE: BMDX).
