Dedicated MRI for early detection of breast cancer
B
reast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. After a few years of debate about the advisability of breast MRI, primarily due to a perceived high false positive rate, the breast MRI protocol was dramatically improved and today there is a wide acceptance of breast MRI for breast cancer early detection.
Because of the high MRI procedure cost, using whole body MRI, it is presently used for high-risk women as additional screening after cancer was found by other means and for cancer mapping before biopsy but not for routine checkup.
There is a dire need for efficient, cost-effective MRI technology that will address this huge market
IME develops dedicated low cost, small size breast MRI, EZScan. The EZScan breast MRI is intended for routine checkup in private small clinics but not as a replacement for the full body MRI.
The technology is based on innovative approach for superconductive magnet design. During the incubator period IME will develop and test the main magnet and develop proof of concept imaging system.
